Opportunities to Learn and Serve

OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN OR SERVE

If you have any questions, please contact the Church Office 863-682-7802 they will be happy put you in touch

with the particular Ministry Leader.

Service Usher

Usher duties include handing out the worship bulletin, assisting with seating, greeting visitors, gathering the offering, and counting the number of people attending the worship service.  Anyone can serve as an usher.

Service Greeter

What a nice way for you to begin your Sunday by welcoming all who enter God’s House.  Two or more people function as greeters each Sunday. This is a great way to get to know people in our church family and have them get to know you.

Acolyte

Acolytes participate in the worship service by lighting and extinguishing chancel candles.  They also assist the Elders with communion duties.  Children from sixth grade through high school are encouraged to serve as an acolyte.

Sunday School

Sunday School is offered September through May at 9:00am every Sunday.  Classes are held for children 3 years of age through high school.  We are always in need of Sunday School teachers, substitute teachers, and helpers.

Adult Bible Study

Every Sunday morning at 9:00am an Adult Bible Study is held in our fellowship hall. Our studies vary from the study of individual books of the Bible, to topical studies, and even a study on “How We Got the Bible.”  It is always interesting and questions and discussion are encouraged.

Adult Information & Membership Classes

Pastor Block holds special one-day classes once a quarter for those who are interested in learning more about the Bible or are interested in becoming members of Christ Lutheran. Watch the bulletin and newsletter for information regarding the next class.

Teen Confirmation Classes

Our teen confirmation classes are held as noted on the Church Calendar.  It is a two year program typically for 7th and 8th graders.

Vacation Bible School

One week each summer we hold our Vacation Bible School.  This is open to all children of the community.  Teachers and helpers are always needed.

Lector

Congregational members are encouraged to offer their talents to the Worship Service by reading the first two lessons on Sunday morning.  The Pastor follows with the reading of the Gospel.

Sound System

An important area of volunteer service on Sunday morning is with the operation of our sound system and the recording of our worship service.  Anyone with an aptitude for this is welcome.

Tellers

Tellers are divided into teams of three and are assigned one Sunday per month to count our weekly offering.  They report to the Financial Secretary.  There is always a need for volunteers for this position.

Choir

Nothing adds to the power and beauty of worship more than the choir.  The only prerequisite to joining the choir is your desire to sing to the Lord from your heart.  Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings in the choir loft. Praise Choir meets on Wednesday evening at another time in the Sanctuary. Check the calendar for times.

No try-out’s required, and all voices are needed.

Youth Group

The youth group of Christ Lutheran is a vital organization in preparing Middle School and Senior High School aged kids to become the leaders of our church in the years ahead.  The Youth Board consists of counselors, parents, and our pastor, that cooperatively organizes and plans the program.  Our youth are not only encouraged to participate in church functions, but also participate in regional, district, and national gatherings. The main thrust of the Youth Group is to teach our teens how to focus their lives on Christ, and to become the responsible leaders of tomorrow.

Christian Education

This board serves by fostering spiritual growth through Christian education classes. It oversees Sunday School, Bible Classes, Youth Classes, and Vacation Bible School.

Outreach Committee

The outreach program is devoted to reaching out with Christ’s love to those in the community and those in our membership.  Regular outreach projects include: monthly prayer breakfast; monthly food, clothing, and toiletries drive for Talbot and Lighthouse Ministries,

Trustees

The Board of Trustees volunteers work with the physical aspects of the Church buildings and grounds.  They are a “hands-on” group of willing workers ready to tackle both minor and major repairs and maintenance.  If you enjoy tinkering and fixing, you’re welcomed to join this group.  They meet every Tuesday morning in the fellowship hall.

Board of Elders

The Board of Elders are men assigned with the task of assisting the Pastor to oversee the spiritual well-being of our congregation and its’ members. Each Elder serves a three-year term, assigned an area of worship responsibility, and is entrusted with the spiritual care of their assigned portion of the membership.  While we encourage men to serve as an Elder, it is a position that must be given special consideration due to its’ sensitivity.

Stewardship Committee

Our Board of Stewardship encourages all members to be fruitful stewards of the Lord’s gifts.  An annual drive seeks to prepare Christians to respond with joyous hearts and hands to the outpouring of God’s blessings in their lives.  It is educationally based, and tries to give equal emphasis to time, talent, and treasure.

We maintain a program to discover and enlist the talents God has given members new and old, young and mature. Periodically, we arrange for seminars to help our families and youth to better understand finances and financial planning. We also have seminars on other topics which may be helpful to members.

We also assist long-term visitors in becoming members; contacting first-time visitors; and new member reception.

Endowment Committee

The Endowment Committee is about planned giving for the long term.  The Endowment Committee’s purpose is to help our members plan a gift of their assents, wills, life insurance, property, cash grants, etc.  The Endowment fund will help Christ Lutheran continue its mission beyond our lifetime.

Mary-Martha Guild

The women of the Mary-Martha Guild are always ready to serve the members of Christ Lutheran in many ways.   Started in 1963, this group has grown from just a few to the over 35 dedicated workers we see today.  The Mary-Martha Guild is divided into teams of workers who help prepare bereavement meals, assist with pot-luck dinners, and keep our church kitchen well stocked and in good working order.

The main annual events for the Mary-Martha’s are their Sauerkraut and Roast Pork dinner, held in January, and their annual Rummage Sale, held in March.  The proceeds from these events are used for Guild projects and various needs of the church.

The Mary-Martha Guild meets at 9:00am on the second Wednesday each month from September through May.

Bulletin Volunteers

On Friday mornings, volunteers arrive to fold our worship bulletins for the Sunday morning services.  Duties also include placing announcement and informational inserts in the bulletins.

Altar Guild

This group of devoted workers could just as easily be called the “Hannah Guild”.  Just as Hannah served in the temple of old, these devoted workers serve in the temple of today.  A team of two workers comes in each week to prepare the meal and set the table for the Lord’s Supper to be served in our worship services. After the worship service has ended, they clean up and make sure all is in order for the next week. In addition to preparing the Holy Meal, these workers insure that the proper paraments and banners are in place for the various liturgical seasons.  Additional duties include: preparation for baptisms, overseeing fresh and silk flowers each week, and the ordering and placement of the Christmas poinsettias and Easter flowers.

Cooperative Lutheran Services

This organization is a joint endeavor with other Lutheran churches in Lakeland for social service work.  One of the chief areas of work is in support of Lighthouse and Talbot House ministries.  There is always a need for more ministry-minded people to serve on this board.  The board meets quarterly.  If you are interested, see Pastor Block.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS

Monthly Prayer Breakfast

On the first Saturday of every month, members gather at Golden Corral on north 98 (8:00am) for a prayer breakfast.  This is open to anyone and no reservations are needed.  It is our hope that other diners will see our presence at the restaurant and ask questions.  Come and join us

The Christogram

Each month you can keep up with all that is going on at Christ Lutheran Church by getting a copy of our newsletter, The Christogram.  If you are a member, it is placed in your mailbox each month.  There are always extra copies that visitors are welcomed to take. Listings of Council members and Ministry Leaders are posted in the Christogram.

Becoming a New Member

If you are currently a member of another LCMS church and would like to become a member here at Christ Lutheran Church, please call the church office to arrange for a transfer.

If you are currently a member of any church other than an LCMS church and would like to become a member of Christ Lutheran Church, we will need a letter of peaceful release from your current congregation.  See Pastor for details.

If you are not a member of any church nor have you received instructions in the Lutheran Catechism, you are encouraged to attend an Adult Bible Information and Membership class before becoming a member of Christ Lutheran Church.  Pastor will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
